Frequently Asked Questions
1/ What is a social venture?
A social venture is any person or group of people who are serving a social purpose including charities, community initiatives, not-for-profit companies, and social enterprises. We back ventures and leaders who are contributing to our vision.
2/ What time commitment does the programme require?
We anticipate venture leaders will spend on average 10 hours a month on the programme. This involves module prep work, attending session, and 1:1s with module leaders and mentors.
3/ How much does it cost to join the Social Venture Academy?
We want to ensure the programme is accessible for all. Taking part in the academy is completely free and Funders In Good will reimburse reasonable travel costs for those travelling for in-person sessions from outside London.
4/ What is the eligibility criteria for this programme?
Ventures must have been operating for at least 12 months, have an annual income less than £100k, be incorporated (or working towards incorporation) as a not-for-profit in the UK, and most importantly contributing to one of Funders In Good's three themes: Socioeconomic Wellbeing, Spirituality and Identity, and Public Perception. See our info pack for more details. We welcome applications from any non-profit organisation, e.g. charities, community interest groups, or those planning to incorporate in the near future.
5/Are sessions delivered online or in person?
Sessions will be delivered hybrid, with most in-person sessions delivered in London. 1:1 sessions with module leaders and mentors will largely be online.
6/Does my work align with your themes?
Ventures must align with one of our three core themes outlined in our eligibility criteria. This year, we will prioritise leaders who are specifically addressing issues within these themes. For example, we are particularly interested in supporting leaders working to improve the socioeconomic wellbeing of their communities by reducing offending and re-offending. More details on strategic themes can be found in our info pack.
