Why we do what we do
At Funders In Good we’re on a mission to empower British Muslim leaders to shape a fairer, more confident society, driven by our faith.
By 2035, we aim to help build ten leading Muslim community organisations that are resilient, impactful, and sustainable.
Challenges facing Islam and Muslims in the UK
The Muslim community’s voice is often undervalued, and many find it hard to express their faith with confidence. The negative perception of Islam in wider society remains a challenge we must respond to.
Our voices are undervalued and discarded on matters which are most important to us
We lack key service provision to respond to the needs of our community and society as a whole
We live in a society in which God and faith are sidelined. 6 in 10 people no longer adhere to a faith
Muslim-led organisations lack strategic support and patient funding
While many organisations are already doing incredible work, they often face challenges—like limited access to patient funding and the support they need to build their capacity. These barriers are holding them back from delivering strategic change.
Lack of patient funding
While organisations can sometimes access restricted project grants, they tend to rely on this funding to survive. They fall into a cycle of searching for the next grant rather than building their work.
Lack of capacity
Organisations lack the bandwidth to give time to establish critical systems in strategy, governance and impact measurement.
Lack of collaboration
Organisations tend to work in silos, missing out on learning from other similar ventures and opportunities to work together to increase impact.
Our Capacity Building Engine
Our three-phase engine is a proven framework designed to bridge these gaps and build capacity in our ventures.
Donors lack transparency and opportunities for strategic impact
We know there are many Muslim donors wanting to support strategic change but often they struggle with knowing which people and organisations can make the greatest impact. There’s also a lack of transparency around how their donations are being used, and limited influence they can have with their individual donations.
Our Funder Community
The Funder Community brings together over 100 driven people and institutions working in a range of sectors from investment banking, healthcare to entrepreneurship to bring about the change we want to see.
Our Vision
Our vision is a society in which commitment to God is flourishing, underpinned by highly effective social ventures.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enhance the impact of select social ventures through a tailored package of funding, strategic advice and operational support.
The duty and opportunity of our time
Funders In Good came together to respond to several challenges faced by the Muslim community here in the UK.
The core challenge is that of faith itself. According to the latest census, there has been a 15% increase in people who do not have a religion in the last decade. That’s 4 in 10 people who have no faith. We shouldn't assume that we are immune to the effects of this national trend.
As a community of believers we have an opportunity and indeed a duty to be the voice of faith. Furthermore, we must urgently increase our efforts to solve our most pressing problems, such as a lack of inspiring and relevant faith-based education, insufficient services for our youth, and growing anti-Muslim prejudice in wider society.
A vital component of any flourishing community are groups of people within it, who come together around a specific purpose which serves that community and what it stands for; these are our social ventures. They act as the institutions and pillars of the community which give it identity, confidence, and grounding.
Investing in these local ventures is critical. This must include building their capacity so that both ourselves and future generations can flourish as believers. By doing this we will honour the efforts of our elders, who responded to the needs of their time, and continue to build on them.
