Our Work

Learn about our work to build capacity through venture philanthropy

Empowering Social Ventures

A vital component of any flourishing community are groups of people within it, who come together around a specific purpose which serves that community and what it stands for; these are our social ventures.

There are many brilliant social ventures across the UK serving Islam and Muslims led by passionate and driven people, however they are faced with several challenges which limit their impact. FIG uses a venture philanthropy approach to support its social ventures, which focuses on building capacity, improving sustainability, scalability and services.

Challenge 1

Many small and medium Muslim community charities are reliant on volunteer staff with high turnover. They do not have the financial visibility to take on staff in key roles.

Challenge 2

Due to limited visibility in funding, ventures lack the bandwidth to plan strategically for the long-term, and instead focus on short-term “fire fighting” activities.

Challenge 3

Ventures lack access to funds and specialist support resulting in sub-par governance, financial planning and strategy development.

Solution 1

The scale and visibility of funding from Funders In Good provides ventures with the confidence and bandwidth to take on paid staff.

Solution 2

Funders In Good provides long-term funding and support with strategy development to enable ventures to think long-term about strategy, sustainability and scale of impact.

Solution 3

Funders In Good complements funding with strategic support and advice to support ventures to improve governance and efficiency.

Mobilising Funders

There are a fast-growing number of Muslim donors who seek to support charities working for their communities on a strategic long-term basis through building capacity.

By joining the Funders In Good Network, Funders gain access
to a portfolio of vetted social ventures which are backed with funding and strategic support.

Challenge 1

Funders lack the time and expertise to research and identify the people and ventures with the highest potential.

Challenge 2

Funders lack access to an organised network of like-minded individuals, and therefore miss out on the scale benefits from pooling money with others.

Challenge 3

Funders have limited time and expertise to lead change at ventures and encourage higher levels of transparency.

Solution 1

Funders In Good combines extensive experience, networks and ongoing research to identify ventures with highest potential for impact.

Solution 2

Funders In Good brings together a network of committed and engaged Funders. It pools funding together to make impactful investments.

Solution 3

Funders In Good's scale and level of engagement with ventures means it can guide change at the highest level and ensure transparency through detailed reporting.
